Sie ist unabhängig, interdisziplinär und nicht-kommerziell. Ihre Mitglieder haben sich zum Ziel gesetzt, das Thema Wissensmanagement zu fördern, Interessierten einen Überblick zu bieten und Impulse zu setzen. Die PWM ist ein Raum für Interaktion, Inhalte und Lösungen. Die Mitglieder gestalten die PWM und vermehren ihr Wissen durch Teilen.

The Centre for Knowledge Management is a department of the Faculty for Social and Economic Sciences at the Johannes Kepler University Linz. The centre is a platform for the interdisciplinary co-operation of scientists and practitioners in the area of knowledge management. The centre's goal is to support the knowledge flow between science and public or commercial institutions. On the one hand, new research ideas can be put into practice and, on the other hand, current problems from practice can be taken as a starting point for further reseach.

Since its establishment in 2001, the Know-Center has been developing highly innovative IT solutions for knowledge management. Its specialist areas of excellence are: • Conceptual design and implementation of IT infrastructures for knowledge intensive companies (e.g. role based intranet portals) • Conceptual design and implementation of methods for the discovery and content based analysis of knowledge in complex knowledge spaces (e.g. search based on the similarity of documents) and • Servicing of outsourced knowledge services (e.g. ASP environments for extranets supporting project teams).
