The TRAIMOR-KNOWMORE Project in brief

There are a number of key elements to the development of the TRAINMOR-KNOWMORE Project. They are as follows:?>

Research and Business Literature Review: Those project partners representing research institutions will undertake an extensive research and business literature review in Knowledge Management. In order to cover the state-of-the-art in K.M, the review will examine Knowledge Management theory, practices, methodologies and tools as presented by all the important K.M researchers and K.M practitioners. This will ensure the quality of the training material, which will be developed at a later stage.

Training Needs Analysis: The project continues with a training needs analysis exercise. The aim here is to justify the exact needs and the profile of both the targeted groups and the potential users as well as determining the characteristics of the training material and the methodology which should be followed in the pilot phase. All European SMEs and public organisations from the partner countries are being targeted because knowledge management is a common key factor across every organisation with competitive competences.

Curriculum and Training Model Development: According to current business literature, Knowledge Management involves a combination of specific H.R.M policies targeting management of so-called tacit knowledge (a type of knowledge which is strictly personal, not documented or codified but very critical regarding it’s value for each organisation) and explicit knowledge (well documented and codified knowledge in the form of electronic documents for example). When compared to tacit knowledge, explicit knowledge is easily managed through the implementation of specific IT systems such as knowledge portals (intranets, knowledge repositories, etc). From the above, it is clear therefore, that a curriculum in organisational Knowledge Management, which aims to train managers & executives of SMEs as well as public organizations, should include a balanced mix. This includes theoretical models and tools from organisational learning, organisational behaviour, organisational culture and strategic management thematic areas as well as systems and tools from the science of Information Technology. The aim of this task is to carefully review these management areas and select the best practices in order to design the most suitable content for the training material and methodologies.

Pilot Testing of the Training Material & Methodology and SWOT Analysis: The main deliverables of the project will be an Organisational Knowledge Management Handbook accompanied by a Self-Audit Knowledge Management Tool and Methodology. From the first phase of the project, a portal (web site) will be developed, providing extensive reference and training for all issues of organisational Knowledge Management. This web site, will constitute a virtual space where all the results are integrated into an e-learning platform whilst also providing a major dissemination tool for project results. The experimental activities will include the organisation and evaluation of pilot seminars in all partner countries as well as the analysis of continuous feedback from web site visitors (e-learners).

Dissemination and Exploitation: It should be emphasised that the TRAINMOR-KNOWMORE consortium has given great priority to the development of a detailed and extensive Valorisation Plan of project results so as to ensure the maximum benefits for the target groups and potential users. Therefore, the following qualities have been considered and incorporated into the valorisation plan:

  •  Early involvement of all interested parties and use of both reactive and proactive dissemination actions and material
  •  Active participation of all partners and use of their business networks
  •  Use of various dissemination tools with emphasis on electronic methods (e-mails, and internet)
  • Creation of national and European e-mailing lists
  • Use of informative brochure (paper and electronic version)
  • Use of local media and meetings with local organizations in the business and vocational training community.

To support the dissemination and exploitation of project results the partners will develop an IPR agreement regulating copyrights issues among partners as well as the development of a marketing plan. Existing business and innovation support networks and organisations such as Innovation Relay Centres (www.irc.lu) and the Gate2Growth innovative business-funding platform (www.gate2growth.com) will also be used.
